Driving SchoolCheck

How we verify

Driving School Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

Sources

Texas. We download TDLR's daily files for driver education providers, their branch locations and driving safety (defensive driving) providers, and keep rows with status CURRENT and an expiry date on or after the day we checked. School districts, colleges and Job Corps centers that TDLR lists as exempt carry no expiry date and are shown as exempt programs. We list providers with a Texas address; licensed providers based outside Texas (mostly online course brands) are not shown, so use TDLR's search for those.

New York. We download the DMV's Driving Schools dataset, which DMV describes as its current list of licensed driving schools, with the courses each school reported on its most recent application. Branches have their own school numbers and are listed separately.

Expired licenses are simply left out; we never label a named school as unlicensed. A license shows that the state has authorized the school, not the quality of its teaching.

Lists are alphabetical. We do not rate or review schools. Featured schools appear in a labelled box and never change the order.

What a badge means

Licensed: the school appears with status CURRENT and an unexpired license in TDLR's daily driver education or driving safety provider files (school districts and colleges that TDLR lists as exempt are shown as such), or in the New York DMV's current list of licensed driving schools. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-10-16. TDLR regenerates its license files every morning and NY DMV updates its school list daily; we re-pull both weekly. Confirm current status with TDLR or DMV before you enroll.
